Danladi Umar Remanded Over N15m Corruption Charges

Danladi Umar, the former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He faces four counts of corruption, specifically for allegedly using his office to confer an unfair advantage amounting to N15 million.
The charges include receiving N5.5 million on October 5, 2021, paid into his wife's account from Kurchmiv International Ltd, a subcontractor awarded a contract for handling the internal and external painting of the Code of Conduct headquarters. Additionally, he is accused of receiving N6 million on January 25, 2024, also into his wife's account from Reality Ltd, a sister company to JTF Global Link Ltd, for hiring digital services related to the management of records.
The EFCC claims these actions contravene Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act of 2000. Umar pleaded not guilty to the charges when read in court.
Justice Peter Kekemek remanded him in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the hearing of his bail application to July 15.
