Abdulaziz Malami's Terrorism Financing Trial Set for March 10

The trial of Abdulaziz Malami, son of former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, is scheduled to commence on March 10, 2023, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Department of State Services (DSS) had arraigned Abdulaziz Malami on February 27, 2023, on five counts related to terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted him bail set at N200 million, requiring two sureties with properties in highbrow areas like Maitama or Asokoro. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the DSS needed time to familiarize itself with the case facts.

The charges against Abdulaziz include knowingly abetting terrorism financing and possessing firearms without lawful authority, specifically a Sturm Magnum 17 0101 firearm and live ammunition, which he allegedly stored in Kebbi State. The case highlights serious allegations against the former AGF's family amid ongoing concerns about terrorism financing in Nigeria.
