Thugs Allegedly Assault Owo LG Chairman Tope Omolayo

Mr. Tope Omolayo, the chairman of Owo Local Government in Ondo State, was allegedly assaulted by suspected thugs following a dispute related to his electoral platform, Progress Congress.

Omolayo had been suspended for gross misconduct and was attempting to resume his duties after a six-month suspension. The incident occurred when he returned to the council secretariat, where tensions had reportedly persisted among council members.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the thugs stormed the premises to prevent him from accessing his office, leading to a confrontation that escalated into violence. Omolayo was beaten mercilessly, and his clothing was torn, leaving him almost naked.

The chaos caused people to flee for safety, and shots were fired into the air during the attack. DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state police public relations officer, confirmed that security personnel were promptly deployed to the scene to restore order and that an investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of the incident and ensure justice.
