Wike Calls Amaechi a Political Liability Ahead of 2027

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, characterized former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi as a "political liability" during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday. Wike asserted that Amaechi lacks the electoral strength to secure votes in Rivers State and the South-South region, particularly in light of reports suggesting he could be considered for a vice-presidential position in the 2027 general election.

Wike argued that if Atiku Abubakar selects Amaechi as a running mate, it would not be based on electoral value but possibly financial reasons. He pointed out Amaechi's failure to win significant electoral support in previous elections, questioning his ability to deliver votes despite his high-profile roles.

Wike also accused Amaechi of political inconsistency, citing his previous criticisms of the APC primary process. Furthermore, Wike highlighted Amaechi's past opposition to Goodluck Jonathan's re-election bid in 2015 as a factor that would hinder his acceptance in the South-South.
