Wike Critiques Amaechi's VP Candidacy for ADC

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, criticized Rotimi Amaechi's emergence as the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election, stating it does not offer an electoral advantage. Wike noted that Amaechi, a two-term governor of Rivers State and former minister under President Muhammadu Buhari, failed to significantly impact electoral outcomes for Buhari in Rivers State.

He emphasized that Amaechi's political record does not strengthen the opposition coalition. During a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike referred to Amaechi's past comments regarding his role in the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan, suggesting these could hinder his acceptance among Rivers voters.

Wike also criticized Amaechi for political inconsistency, particularly regarding his recent outreach to the Ogoni ethnic nationality after previously denying them opportunities. Wike reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, stating that he would not abandon a good situation for a worse one.
