Amaechi Accepts Vice Presidential Ticket After Rejection

Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transport, initially rejected the vice presidential ticket offered to him by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside Atiku Abubakar, the party's presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. During a live interview, Amaechi expressed strong opposition to the idea of being a running mate, stating, "don’t ever say I want to be vice president." However, following consultations within the party and after Atiku clinched the ADC presidential ticket, Amaechi made a surprising volte-face and accepted the role of running mate.

This change came despite his earlier allegations of widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice during the ADC presidential primary held the previous month. Amaechi's acceptance of the vice presidential candidacy reflects a notable shift in his stance, raising questions about the reliability of political commitments in Nigeria.
