U.S. Military Aid to Nigeria Provided at No Cost, DHQ States

During a press conference held on Friday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) spokesperson, Director of Defence Media Operations Michael Onoja, clarified that the military assistance from the American government to Nigeria comes at no cost. The support is primarily aimed at training Nigerian troops to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

Onoja emphasized that this collaboration should not be viewed as abnormal, especially when compared to programs that involve Nigerian officers traveling abroad for training. He assured that Nigeria's territorial integrity and national security remain intact, with no compromise on the country's sovereignty.

The military leadership, including the Theatre Command and Chief Security Officer, is fully engaged in taking necessary steps to prevent further attacks. Additionally, Onoja urged the public to focus on valuing the partnership.

On February 16, the DHQ confirmed the arrival of 100 U.S. military personnel, along with associated equipment, at the Bauchi airfield, following a recent security agreement between Nigeria and the U.S.
