U.S. Military Support Boosts Nigeria's Counterterrorism Efforts

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria emphasized the value of U.S. military support in the ongoing fight against terrorism. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, noted that this partnership has strengthened operational capacity, yielding tangible results on the battlefield.

Recent operations in February 2026 resulted in the neutralization of terrorists, the rescue of hundreds of kidnapped victims, and the dismantling of criminal networks that threaten national security. Notable operations included intensified offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP in Borno State, where troops repelled assaults and arrested 85 suspects.

Additionally, operations in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states led to the rescue of 251 hostages and the arrest of 36 suspects. The DHQ reaffirmed that operations adhere to established rules of engagement and international humanitarian standards, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible intelligence.
