Amnesty International Condemns Police Raid on Kaduna Radio

On 12 September 2026, Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the police invasion of JKD TV/Hamada Radio Network located in Millennium City, Kaduna. The raid, which occurred on Friday, involved heavily armed police officers and resulted in the arrest of the station's General Manager, Charles Abah, and a security guard.

The police stated they had instructions to arrest Zainab Salihu Yabagi, a staff member, concerning a video explainer produced by the station about Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who is the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Affairs. The management of JKD TV/Hamada Radio announced that Abah and the security guard were being detained at the Kaduna State Police Command.

Amnesty International described the raid as part of a broader pattern of pressure against independent media in Nigeria, emphasizing that such actions undermine press freedom and the public's right to fair reporting. The organization called for the immediate release of those detained and urged Nigerian authorities to respect media freedom.
