Amnesty International Condemns Murder of Kano Journalist

Amnesty International condemned the brutal killing of journalist and social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, whose body was discovered in a pool of blood at his home in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State. In a statement issued on the day following the discovery, Amnesty described Dan Shagamu as having been “brutally slaughtered” after being overpowered by his killers.

His niece, Hajiya Rabi, reported that he was killed last Monday, with his body showing signs of mutilation, including cuts to his eyes. She noted that Dan Shagamu had previously received death threats.

The murder has raised alarms about increasing political violence as the 2027 elections approach. Amnesty International emphasized the need for Nigerian authorities to investigate the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The news of Dan Shagamu's death has deeply affected Kano State's media and political communities, with Sharif Abdullahi Habib describing the attack as a heinous act. As of the latest updates, the Kano State Police Command had not released any statements regarding the murder.
