Samson Adamu Becomes CAF Acting Secretary General

Samson Adamu has been appointed as the Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), making him the first Nigerian to hold this position since the organization's establishment 70 years ago. His appointment follows the resignation of Swiss-Congolese Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Dr. Ademola Olajire, the Director of Communications for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), announced this development in a statement released yesterday.

Samson Adamu previously served as CAF's Director of Tournament and Event, playing a key role in the successful organization of major continental competitions. His appointment will be ratified by the CAF Executive Committee during a congress scheduled for Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.

Notably, Samson is the son of Dr. Amos Adamu, who has a history of involvement in football governance, having served as a member of FIFA's Executive Committee and as the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) in December 2000.
