INEC Chairman Commends BVAS Performance in FCT Mock Accreditation Exercise

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan commended the performance of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during a mock accreditation exercise across designated polling units in the FCT.

The exercise, conducted at 289 selected polling units, aimed to test the BVAS ahead of the main elections scheduled for February 21. Amupitan highlighted the BVAS technology as a game-changer that significantly improved the voter accreditation process, ensuring integrity and efficiency.

He emphasized the importance of the mock exercise in identifying and addressing challenges before the main elections. The BVAS successfully accredited voters in just five seconds, preventing multiple accreditations or votes.

Amupitan also addressed voter apathy and emphasized the role of civic education in mobilizing voters. Political parties were urged to raise awareness and encourage voter participation.

The mock exercise included training for supervisory presiding officers in secondary schools and polling units across the FCT, including areas like Garki and AMAC.
