INEC Details BVAS Result Transmission in FCT Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) provided an explanation regarding the transmission of results in the recent area council elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). During a discussion on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, Deputy Director Ifogah disclosed that a mock trial of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was conducted across 289 polling units prior to the elections.

This test run aimed to assess the effectiveness of the updates introduced to the BVAS, which are designed to strengthen the credibility of the result management process at the polling unit level. Ifogah emphasized that the updates allow for direct input of results into the BVAS, which collates data from polling units and includes built-in validation mechanisms to cross-check uploaded results against previous records.

He noted that these enhancements go beyond the previous functions of merely capturing and transmitting images of result sheets, thereby improving transparency and ensuring that results uploaded reflect the actual figures recorded during the accreditation and voting process.
