Amupitan Appeals for NPC Support Ahead of 2027 Elections

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has made an appeal to the National Peace Committee (NPC), led by Abdulsalami, to assist in rebuilding public trust in Nigeria's electoral system as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at an event in Abuja, which gathered leaders from political parties, security agencies, and civil society organizations, Amupitan emphasized the urgent need to address the prevailing trust deficit in the electoral process. He noted that without public confidence, voter participation would decline, undermining the legitimacy of electoral outcomes.

Amupitan described Nigeria's electoral landscape as diverse and complex, highlighting the necessity for a broad-based commitment to peace and credible elections. He underscored that the NPC's involvement is crucial in fostering trust and ensuring that the electoral process is perceived as legitimate and fair.
