INEC Engages 1,132 Vehicles for FCT Elections Logistics

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finalized plans to engage 1,132 vehicles for the upcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elections scheduled for Saturday. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, cautioned the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to ensure that only sound service vehicles are deployed for the exercise.

During a stakeholders' meeting in Abuja, Prof. Amupitan stressed that any vehicle breakdown leading to late arrival of election materials would not be tolerated, referencing issues from the Anambra State governorship election. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the unions and INEC to facilitate the early movement of sensitive and non-sensitive materials to polling units.

Barr. Merci Ibeh from NURTW highlighted challenges faced during the Anambra elections and urged INEC to communicate with the federal government regarding vehicle serviceability.

The meeting included leadership from INEC and transport unions, emphasizing a collaborative effort to ensure a successful election.
