Nigeria's Athletes Gear Up for 2026 World Championships

Nigeria's participation in the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships commences on September 11, 2026, in Budapest, Hungary. Tobi Amusan and Ella Onojuvwevwo are among the leading athletes representing Nigeria on the opening night.

The championship starts with the mixed 4x100m relay, which is the first medal event, where Nigeria will compete against teams from Hungary, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Germany, and the United States. Tobi Amusan is also part of the mixed relay team, which includes Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe, Miracle Ezechukwu, Udodi Onwuzurike, and Rosemary Nwankwo.

However, the team faces challenges as Rosemary Nwankwo and Miracle Ezechukwu were denied visas, potentially leading to Amusan and Onojuvwevwo racing with Favour Ashe and Kanyinsola Ajayi. Amusan will also compete in the women's 100m hurdles semi-finals, with the final scheduled shortly after.

Nigeria's medal hopes extend to the men's sprints, with Kanyinsola Ajayi and Ezekiel Nathaniel also competing in their respective events.
