Nigeria's Athletes Gear Up for 2026 World Championships

The inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships will commence in Budapest, Hungary, on September 11, 2026, featuring Nigeria's leading athletes, including Tobi Amusan and Ella Onojuvwevwo. The championship opens with the mixed 4x100m relay, the first medal event, where Nigeria will compete against teams from Hungary, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Germany, and the United States.

Tobi Amusan is part of Nigeria's mixed relay team, which also includes Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe, Miracle Ezechukwu, Udodi Onwuzurike, and Rosemary Nwankwo. However, visa issues have affected preparations, with Nwankwo and Ezechukwu unable to participate, potentially leading to Amusan and Onojuvwevwo racing with Ashe and Kanyinsola Ajayi instead.

Amusan will also compete in the women's 100m hurdles semi-finals, while Onojuvwevwo will race in the women's 400m semi-finals. Nigeria's medal hopes extend to the men's sprints, with Kanyinsola Ajayi and Onwuzurike competing in the men's 100m and 200m events, respectively.
