Tobi Amusan Prepares for African Championships and Diamond League

Tobi Amusan, a three-time Diamond League final winner, is preparing for a busy week as she competes in the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra and the Diamond League in Shanghai. Amusan, who is Nigeria's strongest medal hope, will run in the women's 100m hurdles at the African Championships, where she previously won double gold in 2018 at Asaba and repeated the feat in Mauritius in 2022.

Following the championships, she will focus on the Diamond League opening in Shanghai on Saturday, where she will face a competitive field in the women's 100m hurdles, including reigning world champion Ditaji Kambundji, Olympic champion Masai Russell, and other notable athletes. Amusan holds the world record for the event at 12.12 seconds, while Russell's personal best is 12.17 seconds, and Kambundji's record is 12.24 seconds.

The Shanghai meet marks the beginning of the 2026 Diamond League season, which will conclude with finals in Brussels on September 4-5.
