TCN's Amuwo Substation Upgrade Set for July 2026 Completion

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the upgrade of the Amuwo 132/33kV transmission substation is scheduled for completion in July 2026. According to a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs, the ongoing rehabilitation work includes the installation of gas-insulated switchgear and two 60MVA power transformers to replace the existing 30MVA units.

This upgrade will significantly improve the substation's capacity by adding 60MVA, enhancing power transmission for customers in the area. To minimize disruptions during the rehabilitation, TCN has deployed two mobile transformers to enable Eko Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to continue power supply and avoid total blackouts.

TCN emphasized that the overhaul aims to address persistent breakdowns and downtime linked to gas-insulated infrastructure, thereby enhancing operational reliability and efficiency. The company has appealed for patience from electricity consumers, assuring that the project is designed to deliver long-term benefits in power supply and transmission capacity across Nigeria.
