TCN Completes Alaoji-Onitsha Transmission Line Upgrade

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully completed the upgrade of the Alaoji-Onitsha transmission line and has initiated the payment of compensation to affected persons under the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). This project, which spans 138 kilometers, will transform the existing single circuit line into a double circuit quad conductor transmission line, significantly enhancing the grid's capacity and efficiency.

The compensation process, which affected persons were notified about between March 31 and April 2, 2026, covers eight local government areas in the Abia and Imo State sections of the transmission line corridor. Mr.

Aromeh Adol, the Assistant General Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment at the AfDB Project Implementation Unit, confirmed the payment of compensation, highlighting the project's significance. The upgrade is expected to be completed within 18 months and will fundamentally transform bulk power delivery to the South East region, improving supply to areas including the Alaoji and Port Harcourt axis.
