TCN to Upgrade Alaoji-Onitsha Transmission Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is set to commence the upgrade of the Alaoji-Onitsha transmission line, a project that will reconstruct and upgrade the existing 138km single circuit line to a double circuit 330kV line. This enhancement is expected to significantly increase the grid's capacity and efficiency, delivering four times the current capacity and fundamentally transforming bulk power delivery in the southeast region of Nigeria.

The project is anticipated to be completed within 18 months and is part of the Nigeria Transmission Expansion Project (NTEP 1). The African Development Bank (AfDB) is partnering with TCN on this initiative, with Obiora Alexand representing the project implementation unit and Aminu Tahir serving as the program coordinator.

The federal government will provide counterpart funding to ensure that the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) is implemented fairly and promptly.
