TCN Upgrades Alaoji-Onitsha Transmission Line for Power

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has initiated the upgrade of the 138km Alaoji–Onitsha 330kV transmission line as part of efforts to enhance electricity supply across Southeast Nigeria. This project is being implemented in partnership with the African Development Bank (AFDB) and involves acquiring rights of way and a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).

TCN explained that the upgrade will transform the existing single circuit line into a double circuit quad conductor transmission line, significantly boosting grid capacity and efficiency. The project manager, Engr. Edeh Obiora Alex, disclosed that compensation payments for affected persons will be made between March 31 and April 2, 2026, covering communities along the transmission corridor in Abia and Imo States.

TCN's Managing Director, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, praised the leadership of President Bola Tinubu for timely fund releases. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months and aims to reduce transmission losses while strengthening overall grid reliability.
