Six Arrested for Extorting Traders in Anambra State

The Anambra State Special Anti-Tout Squad Agency arrested six suspects for allegedly engaging in illegal revenue collection and extortion of traders in Onitsha, a commercial hub in Anambra State. The arrests occurred during an enforcement operation targeting unauthorized levies.

The suspects, identified as Chukwuka Ezza from Ebonyi State, Chinwez from Anambra State, Uch Nweke from Ebonyi State, Eken Onyedimma from Imo State, Anakw Uchenna from Enugu State, and Ugochukwu Ukadik from Abia State, were later arraigned in a magistrate's court in Onitsha North Local Government Area. They were granted bail under stringent conditions, including a N200,000 bond and a N300,000 fine, with the case adjourned to July 1, 2026, for further hearing.

Karen Jame, the agency's spokesperson, reiterated their commitment to eradicating illegal revenue collection and extortion activities across the state, urging residents to report such cases confidentially.
