Anambra State Targets Unregistered Mortuary Operators

The Anambra State Ministry of Health has commenced a clampdown on unregistered mortuary operators as part of its healthcare reform agenda. Dr.

Chukwulobelu Ugochukwu, on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidik Mondai, issued a public notice mandating all mortuary facilities currently operating without registration to begin the registration process immediately.

The notice emphasizes that any mortuary facility with an expired registration must renew its license without delay, as operating without proper approval is illegal. The Ministry aims to strengthen healthcare standards and control the spread of infectious diseases, particularly during pandemics.

An update to the database of registered mortuary facilities across the state is underway to enhance monitoring and regulatory compliance. The deadline for completing the registration and license renewal process is set for June 5, after which inspections will commence, and appropriate sanctions will be imposed on non-compliant facilities.
