Anambra State Mandates Mortuary License Renewals

The Anambra State Ministry of Health has issued a directive requiring all mortuary operators to register and renew their licenses as part of a regulatory reform initiative aimed at improving the health sector. This notice, signed by Dr.

Chukwulobelu Ugochukwu on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidik, was announced on May 29, 2026.

Mortuary operators are given until June 5, 2026, to complete the registration and renewal process. The government has warned that inspections will commence after the deadline, and any facilities operating without proper registration will face sanctions under existing laws.

This initiative aims to update the state’s database of mortuary facilities, enhance monitoring, and ensure compliance with public health standards. The Ministry of Health has emphasized the importance of proper handling of corpses to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and has called for immediate action from those whose licenses have expired.
