Anambra Seals Lodges and Churches Over Sanitation Issues

The Anambra State Government, under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has sealed several lodges, churches, and markets in Awka due to sanitation violations. The enforcement exercise led by Ikechukwu Ndigw uncovered significant environmental violations at Emmanuel Lodge, including the illegal discharge of wastewater into public drainage channels, posing serious public health risks.

The lodge was found to have visible structural cracks, raising safety concerns, and was already under a valid court order for closure. Ndigw warned against obstructing enforcement officers during their duties.

The operation also involved collaboration with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where student leadership was notified to ensure compliance. Dr. Clem Aguiyi inspected sanitation compliance in various locations, emphasizing the need for residents to report any structural distress in buildings.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to strict enforcement of environmental sanitation laws to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
