IPMAN Urges Soludo to Address Illegal Levies in Anambra

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene against alleged illegal levies imposed by government agents in Anambra state. This appeal was made during IPMAN's Annual General Meeting in Awka.

Chinedu Anyaso, Chairman of IPMAN's Enugu depot community, acknowledged Soludo's approval of a harmonized annual levy of N145,000 per outlet but expressed concerns over harassment from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the introduction of additional illegal charges. He noted that while Anambra's levies are higher than those in neighboring states, marketers are still receiving questionable demand notices.

Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo, Southeast Zonal Vice President, highlighted the increasing difficulties in the petroleum business, urging the state government for support. He warned that if the situation does not improve, marketers may consider shutting down operations to draw attention to their plight.

The meeting underscored the challenges faced by marketers in Anambra, exacerbated by the actions of local government authorities and consultants unfamiliar with the petroleum sector.
