Anambra Revenue Service Enforces Tax Compliance Measures

The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), under the leadership of Executive Chairman Ikeazor Okonkwo, has begun statutory enforcement against individuals, businesses, and corporate organizations that have not complied with their tax obligations. This action follows the expiration of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration and Tax Regularisation Scheme (VAIDS) on September 5.
Okonkwo stated that the enforcement targets those who failed to regularize their tax liabilities under the VAIDS scheme, those who received Best of Judgment assessments but did not challenge or settle them, and those who underpaid or failed to meet their obligations. Non-compliant taxpayers may face legal measures, including final statutory Demand Notices, sealing of properties, recovery of tax liabilities, and prosecution.
Okonkwo urged affected taxpayers to regularize their tax affairs promptly. AIRS has registered about 500,000 taxpayers and aims to reach one million.
The enforcement will utilize digital systems to reduce physical contact, and an alternative dispute resolution mechanism is being established for legitimate complaints.
