Archbishop Valerian Okeke Named Anambra Person of the Decade

The Anambra Group has honored Archbishop Valerian Okeke as the "Person of the Decade" for his outstanding contributions to evangelism, education, healthcare, and socio-economic development in Anambra State. The recognition highlights his unwavering commitment to the growth of the Catholic faith since becoming the Archbishop of Onitsha in 2003.

Under his leadership, the number of parishes in the archdiocese increased from 72 to 182, and he established four additional episcopal regions to enhance pastoral care. Archbishop Okeke has also transformed education in the region, with schools under the Onitsha Archdiocesan Education Secretariat achieving national recognition.

His efforts in healthcare include revitalizing several hospitals to improve access to quality healthcare for thousands. Additionally, he has initiated programs to empower youth and support community development, including the establishment of Oluchukwu Microfin Bank.

This award, which began in 2020, marks Archbishop Okeke as the first recipient of the Anambra Person of the Decade honor.
