Osun CSOs Demand Police Commissioner Redeployment in 72 Hours

The Osun Civil Society Coalition announced the suspension of its planned protest against the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Sunday, giving Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu a 72-hour ultimatum to redeploy the state’s police commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan. This decision follows the coalition's recognition of the IGP's intervention aimed at addressing the worsening security situation in Osun State, particularly concerning political violence.

The coalition, led by Emmanuel Olowu Ayedun, emphasized the need for immediate action to restore public confidence ahead of the upcoming governorship elections. They acknowledged the IGP's efforts but insisted that the removal of Commissioner Gotan is essential to ensure peace and safety.

The coalition had previously issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the redeployment, which was set to expire on Saturday. They expressed concerns over ongoing political violence and alleged attacks by political thugs, urging the NPF to act decisively to protect democracy and the rule of law in the state.
