Anambra Launches HIV Prevention Programme in Tertiary Institutions

The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has initiated a campus-based HIV prevention and support programme called the Tertiary Institutions HIV Action Network (TIHAN) across 27 tertiary institutions in Anambra State. This programme is specifically aimed at adolescents and young people, focusing on intensified awareness, prevention, and support services.

During the launch, two HIV focal persons from each institution were inaugurated, including a representative from the school authority and a student representative. The participating institutions encompass universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and nursing schools, both public and private.

Each institution will form a campus HIV action committee consisting of students from various departments and academic levels. Dr Nkem Okeke, the Executive Director of ANSACA, stated that the committees would be trained and inaugurated to ensure adherence to professional and ethical standards.

The initiative is designed to complement existing HIV response programmes at various governmental levels. Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's administration has been acknowledged for its commitment to strengthening HIV prevention efforts in the state.
