APGA and YPP to Contest Anambra LG Elections in August

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), represented by Anthony Chinedu, has confirmed that only the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) will participate in the local government elections set for August 29, 2024. Chinedu disclosed this information during an interview with journalists in Awka on Friday, emphasizing the commission's commitment to ensuring credible elections.

He noted that the commission had released a timetable for the elections and had begun preparations to facilitate a fair electoral process. Chinedu expressed concerns about voter apathy in the state, urging residents to actively participate in the electoral process.

He reassured the public that the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, would not interfere with the elections, aiming for a transparent outcome.

The commission is also preparing materials necessary for the elections and has highlighted the importance of voter engagement to express dissatisfaction with governance through voting rather than boycotting elections.
