SWAN Anambra to Host Inaugural Sports Week in 2026

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State chapter, is set to hold its first Sports Week on August 20 and 21, 2026, at the Cosmilla Hotel and Suites Sports Arena in Awka. The event, themed “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment,” aims to encourage journalists and media professionals to engage in sporting activities for physical fitness, mental alertness, and stronger relationships.

SWAN Chairman Chimezie Anaso stated that the initiative allows sports writers, who often report on athletes, to actively participate in sports themselves. The two-day event will kick off with competitions in table tennis, ludo, and draught, followed by a five-a-side cage football competition on the second day.

Anaso expressed optimism that this maiden edition would become an annual event in Anambra State, setting a new standard for sporting engagements among media practitioners.
