Yari: Promises to Restore Fuel Subsidy Are Deceptive

Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign council, declared that anyone promising to restore fuel subsidy is deceiving themselves and Nigerians. His comments were made during a courtesy visit from APC national working committee members.

Yari responded to Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, who pledged to introduce a targeted subsidy if elected in 2027. Yari pointed out that the 2023 budget, passed by the National Assembly before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office, contained no provision for petrol subsidy.

He questioned the previous expenditures on subsidies and the lack of clarity regarding Nigeria's daily fuel consumption. Yari, who previously chaired the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, noted that governors had challenged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) for accurate consumption figures.

He affirmed that President Tinubu is the right leader for Nigeria and that the APC's 2027 campaign will focus on achievements rather than attacking opponents.
