Adeleke Establishes Inquiry Panel for Osun Killings

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued an Executive Order to establish a Coroner Inquest/Panel of Inquiry regarding the killings and violence that occurred at Naira and Kobo Junction, Motor Park/Garage Area, Ikire, on August 24, 2026. The panel, led by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, is tasked with investigating the incident's circumstances, identifying victims, and determining the causes of the violence.

It will examine the actions of security operatives and whether live ammunition was used in compliance with legal standards. The inquiry, effective from August 31, also has the authority to summon witnesses, gather evidence, and recommend prosecution or compensation for victims.

Governor Adeleke has mandated the preservation of evidence, including firearms and medical records, and has directed measures to protect witnesses and the families of victims. The inquiry aims to prevent future occurrences of such violence in the region.
