APC Adopts Direct Primaries for Bayelsa National Assembly

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted direct primaries for the selection of candidates for the National Assembly elections in Bayelsa State, as announced by Solomon Ez Ogba, the chairman of the electoral panel, during a press briefing on Saturday at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Yenagoa. This decision marks the commencement of the electoral process for candidates vying for Senate and House of Representatives seats in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ogba emphasized that the party's choice of direct primaries aligns with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act, aiming to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process. He noted that a credible electoral panel has been painstakingly selected to oversee the primaries, and materials for the elections have already been distributed across the state.

While Ogba did not disclose the exact number of aspirants, he confirmed that the screening process would take place in Abuja, and the final list of eligible aspirants would be made available prior to the primaries.
