Mustapha Bala Dawaki Defects to Nigeria Democratic Congress

Mustapha Bala Dawaki, previously the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on a Monday. He joined the Kwankwasiyya Movement, founded by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, during a meeting at Kwankwaso's residence in Kano.

Dawaki's defection comes after he reportedly lost his bid to secure the APC consensus ticket for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat. His entry into the NDC is expected to alter the political dynamics in Kano, particularly as the opposition party intensifies consultations for consensus arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers have described this defection as a major shake-up within Kano's political landscape. Dawaki has pledged loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya Movement and expressed readiness to work with the party leadership to strengthen the opposition ahead of the elections.
