ADC's Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of Oppression

Kenneth Okonkwo, a member of the National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a lawyer, has raised alarms regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the party has made it a law to suppress opposition voices in Nigeria. Okonkwo described the increasing pressure on opposition parties as a threat to Nigeria's democracy, warning that the APC is employing deliberate political actions to weaken rival parties ahead of future elections.

He claimed that the APC no longer relies on political competition but instead uses legal tactics to frustrate opposition groups, thereby denying them the space to campaign fairly. Okonkwo specifically mentioned that the APC aims to block the opposition, particularly targeting the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and that President Bola Tinubu's ambitions contribute to this strategy.

He argued that democracy cannot survive in an environment dominated by one party without checks from opposition forces, which are currently facing coordinated pressures, including court cases and defections.
