APC Launches Major Campaign Push for Osun Governorship Race

The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday inaugurated a national campaign council dedicated to winning the Osun State governorship election, signalling an aggressive push to reclaim the state from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. Party National Chairman Prof.

Nentawe Yilwatda led the ceremony in Abuja, bringing together governors, federal lawmakers, ministers and party stakeholders to coordinate the campaign effort. He stressed that the party possesses the resources and organisational capacity to prevail across all electoral levels, from local contests to the presidential race. The APC's candidate for the governorship is Bola Oyebamiji.

The sources conflict on the election date—some report August 15, 2026, while another cites November 27, 2026—and on the council's size, with reported membership ranging from 276 to 292 individuals. The campaign council is led by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.

The party has pledged to deploy its nationwide political networks and grassroots structures to mobilise voters and resources across the state. Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration dismissed the APC's campaign preparations as a desperate move.

The governor's Imole Campaign Council countered that his track record of governance would secure his re-election bid under the PDP banner. The Osun contest arrives at a moment when the APC controls the presidency and numerous state offices, while the 2027 general elections loom as a major test of the ruling party's political standing.
