APC Leaders Join NDC, Support Ajia for 2027 Election

On August 25, 2026, eight political leaders from Asa Local Government Area in Kwara State announced their defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The delegation, led by Alhaji Musa Agbaji, expressed support for the NDC's governorship candidate, Professor Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, ahead of the 2027 election.

The defectors, who are influential figures from the Adigbongbo/Awe/Orimaro Ward, cited dissatisfaction with the APC's performance and internal practices, claiming their communities had been neglected and excluded from meaningful participation. They were drawn to Ajia's leadership qualities and his Itesiwaju Kwara movement.

Ajia welcomed the defectors, outlining his Forward Kwara Agenda, which aims to ensure that all communities in Kwara benefit from development programs. He criticized the transactional political culture and urged the new NDC members to mobilize their communities for a focus on sustainable development in the upcoming election.
