APC Member Shot in Osun Amid Election Violence

On Saturday, Taofeek Mustapha, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), sustained gunshot wounds during an attack by suspected political thugs in the Oluod Aranyin area of Osogbo, Osun State. This incident raised concerns about escalating political violence as the state approaches the August 15 governorship election.

Witnesses reported that the attack occurred when Mustapha, who was wearing a cap associated with the APC candidate, was targeted while others fled for safety. Mustapha recounted that he heard cries for help but did not look back as he sought refuge.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State police command, confirmed the shooting and stated that an investigation is already underway. In light of the upcoming elections, police and security agencies are convening peace meetings to encourage political parties to commit to peaceful campaigns, although the APC reportedly did not attend the meeting.
