Cleric's 'Infidels' Remark on Muslim-Muslim Ticket Sparks Outrage

Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Jingir made controversial remarks at a political gathering organized by Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah in Kano, where he referred to Christians as "infidels" while promoting a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the 2027 elections. His comments drew condemnation from various leaders, including Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, who stated that the people of Kano do not support such divisive rhetoric.

Rev Joseph Hayab, chairman of the Northern Christian Association, criticized Jingir for highlighting the religious discrimination faced by Christians in Northern Nigeria. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju warned that such statements could exacerbate religious divisions and threaten national unity.

Jingir expressed his unwavering support for the Muslim-Muslim ticket, praising President Bola Tinubu for adopting this political strategy in the 2023 elections and urging Muslims to unite politically against perceived Christian dominance.
