Iyabo Obasanjo Defects to APC, Cites PDP Discomfort

Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has announced her defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as she prepares for the 2027 general elections in Ogun State. She expressed that her departure from the PDP was due to discomfort within the party and a feeling of betrayal, stating that she felt sidelined and unsupported during electoral processes.

Iyabo Obasanjo emphasized that she was not pressured to join the APC and that her decision was based on her analysis of the situation within the PDP. She recalled her previous political experience, including her unsuccessful bid for re-election in 2011 against Gbenga Obadara of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Iyabo Obasanjo criticized the PDP for not reaching out to her for support and expressed her desire to be part of a political environment where she feels valued and supported.
