Iyabo Obasanjo Joins APC, Declares Ogun Guber Race Intent

Iyabo Obasanjo, a former senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and expressed her intention to contest the Ogun State governorship in the 2023 elections. She had previously participated in the ongoing APC registration exercise in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Obasanjo, a renowned epidemiologist and former Ogun State Commissioner of Health, lost her re-election bid in 2011 to Gbenga Obadara of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Following her defeat, she pursued an academic career in the United States, rising to the rank of professor.

However, Obasanjo has now returned to active politics, citing pressure and support from a group of people as her motivation. She emphasized that the APC is her natural political home and expressed confidence in her decision to join the party.

Obasanjo hinted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could be an alternative option. She ruled out a return to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and hinted at a possible gubernatorial run rather than seeking a senatorial position.

Obasanjo stressed her dedication to her political journey and expressed readiness to embark on the governorship race.
