Iyabo Obasanjo Bello Joins APC, Eyes Ogun Governorship

Iyabo Obasanjo Bello, a former senator, announced her decision to leave the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a television interview on Friday. She clarified that she had not been an active member of the PDP since 2011, following her unsuccessful bid for re-election to the Senate.

After leaving the PDP, she pursued an academic career, including a fellowship at Harvard University. Obasanjo Bello emphasized that her membership in the APC was motivated by personal relationships rather than political calculations, dismissing suggestions that it was driven by a desire to align with a winning party.

She is now seeking the APC's nomination to run for the Ogun State governorship in the upcoming 2027 general elections and has participated in the party's registration exercise in Ibogun Ward 11, Ifo Local Government Area. She expressed concerns about the PDP's internal crises and the uncertainty surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the elections.
