APGA Primaries in Anambra: Discontent and Withdrawals

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primaries in Anambra State showcased a mix of discontent and jubilation among party members as the February 2027 general elections approach. Aspirants such as Hon Ifeanyi Ibezi and Chief Akai Egwuonwu withdrew from their respective races, citing issues with party leadership and procedural violations.

Ibezi, who was contesting for the Idemili North/South Federal Constituency, stepped down to avoid a potential disgraceful defeat, while Egwuonwu withdrew from the Anambra South Senatorial race as a protest against alleged interference by party leadership. The primaries were marred by reports of intimidation and violence, with some aspirants claiming they faced coercion to withdraw in favor of more prominent candidates.

Despite these challenges, the primaries were described as smooth and credible by some party leaders, who expressed gratitude for the support received from the public.
