APGA Dominates Anambra LG Polls, Winning All Seats

In the local government elections held on August 29, 2026, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured victory in all 21 chairmanship and councillorship positions across Anambra State. Genevieve Osakwe, the Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), announced the results at the ANSIEC office in Awka.

She confirmed that APGA was the only party to field candidates in 20 of the 21 local government areas, with the Young Progressives Party (YPP) contesting only in Anambra East LGA. Osakwe declared the elections peaceful and fair, stating that the commission meticulously collated and analyzed the results to avoid errors.

No opposition candidates or political party representatives were present during the results declaration. The elections took place across 362 electoral wards and were conducted in accordance with state electoral laws.

Osakwe commended the citizens of Anambra State for their participation and acknowledged the role of security agencies in maintaining order during the elections.
