Arbeloa Names Bassey as Potential Fulham Captain

Álvaro Arbeloa, the head coach of Fulham, has expressed confidence in Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, suggesting he could become a leader for the club as they approach the new Premier League season. This confidence was highlighted when Bassey captained Fulham in their final two pre-season matches against Málaga and Stuttgart.

Arbeloa praised Bassey’s defensive capabilities and work ethic, stating, “I see Calvin as a proper player, a top player for the style of play I want at Fulham.” Bassey, who joined Fulham from Ajax in 2023, has been a reliable defender, making 30 Premier League appearances last season and starting 28 of them. In the 2024/25 season, he was voted the club’s Player of the Season after making 35 appearances.

Arbeloa, who joined Fulham at the start of the season, is considering Bassey as part of an experienced core alongside Sander Berge, Antonee Robinson, and Bernd Leno to guide a younger squad.
