ARCN Advocates for Plant Breeding Education in Nigeria

The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) has called for the teaching of plant breeding in higher education institutions. This initiative was announced by the Executive Secretary of ARCN during a meeting with the Plant Breeder Association of Nigeria on Tuesday.

The council expressed its commitment to support the association's activities and emphasized the importance of plant breeding research in achieving food security, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda. Dr.

Oluwafemi Salako, Director of Plant Resources at ARCN, highlighted the urgency of addressing the decline in plant breeding studies at the tertiary level to prevent the discipline from going extinct. Dr.

Nuhu Yusuf, Deputy Director of Knowledge Management and Communication, stressed the significance of knowledge sharing. The council approved hosting the association to facilitate proper dissemination of information.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed to expedite the training of students and staff in institutions, addressing the challenges faced in the field.
