Kebbi Fisherman Wins ₦1 Million at Argungu Festival

The Argungu Fishing Festival saw fisherman Abubakar Usman Maiyama from Kebbi State emerge as the winner, catching a 59kg fish and receiving a grand prize of ₦1 million and two brand new Toyota vehicles donated by the Sokoto State government. The second position was claimed by Abdullahi Garba from Argungu Local Government Area, who caught a 40kg fish and was awarded a brand new Toyota saloon car and ₦1 million from Wacott Rice Mill Limited.

Danlansu Dankani from Jega secured third place with two fish weighing 34kg, receiving ₦1 million and a motorcycle. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who attended as a special guest, praised the festival as a symbol of cultural heritage and unity.

He acknowledged the achievements of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris in addressing insecurity and fulfilling campaign promises, including the construction of an ultra-modern state secretariat and various infrastructure projects. The festival attracted approximately 50,000 fishermen and highlighted the ongoing construction of a permanent fish center, which was recognized by UNESCO but had faced delays since 2022.
